TRAINING IN AGRICULTURE

The Vaughan Trust acknowledges that in a rapidly changing market place farmers need to continually improve their business and technical skills. If a farmer/student has an interest in undertaking training through an accredited provider, then the Vaughan Trust may assist with fees. Complete a General Application Form VT-GA.

The Trust also supports local farmers to analyse business performance through participation in CAFRE benchmarking. Awards offered are £100 per farmer undertaking benchmarking.

If an individual or farming group wish to avail of agricultural education and training the Vaughan Trust welcomes an application. Please complete a General Application Form.

EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL AWARDS

The value of educational travel is fully appreciated by the Trustees, students attending the CAFRE campuses in Northern Ireland and Harper Adams University College in England are current beneficiaries. All university and college students from County Fermanagh undertaking courses in agriculture are eligible to apply to the Trust for assistance with travel costs.

Other recipients of travel awards have included farmers attending agriculture educational study tours organised by the local CAFRE Advisory staff, the farming unions, and other farming groups such as the Fermanagh Pedigree Breeders and Bannagh Farming Group. A Vaughan Trust Travel Award is allocated to the Young Farmers Club in the county, offering a travel bursary of £500 to each of the top three County winners of the YFC competitions.

OTHER RELATED FUNDING

The Fermanagh Grassland Club benefits from Vaughan support.  The Fermanagh Grassland Club encompasses a wide range of farmers who are committed to making best use of grass for livestock production. The Club is run by a committee of local farmers elected annually by the Club members. The Club have successfully applied for Vaughan sponsorship which allows them to attract high profile speakers for their open meetings, giving all farmers (not just Club members)  the opportunity to avail of this information. The Vaughan Trust sponsor travel awards for the prizewinners of the Club competitions which enable Fermanagh farmers to study new methods of farming in other countries which could be applied in Fermanagh.

The Fermanagh Farming Society benefits from Vaughan funding annually for the local Fermanagh County Show. Sponsorship of livestock classes open to Fermanagh exhibitors encourages local farmers to enter their livestock for the Show. Primary childrens classes with an agriculture theme are sponsored and new classes are being initiated for secondary school children in Fermanagh. Funding in the past has provided new poultry cages for the benefit of exhibitors.

Please note that the Vaughan Trust is open to application by any farming group or individual based in County Fermanagh. The Trustees welcome applications of new ideas, proposed schemes or any aspect of agriculture education and training. Successful funding is at the discretion of the Trustees.
